Correlation between Soil-transmitted Helminths and Anemia Incidence in Primary School Children in Talawi, Batubara Regency

BACKGROUND: Prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections is high in developing countries, especially school children. STH can lead to anemia. AIM: The aim the study was observe correlation between and anemia cases primary METHODS: Analytical observation with a cross-sectional method carried out by retrieving data from health service unit Talawi. Research samples were children, grouped into infected uninfected groups. analyzed using continuity correction Fisher’s exact tests. RESULTS: From 384 research subjects, 35.9% children 22.5% them suffered prevalence consisted 76.8% Trichuris trichiura, 10.9% Ascaris lumbricoides, 0.7% hookworms, 11.6% had mixed infections. Anemia significantly correlated intensity T. trichiura infection (odds ratio (95% confidence interval) = 4.5 (2.3–8.6) 3.6 (1.2–10.9) respectively). CONCLUSION: positively infection.
